Plot Summary and Review of Recently released DVD movie: The Accidental Husband:
ReplyDeleteSynopsis: New York firefighter Patrick Sullivan had no idea his seemingly idyllic life was about to go up in smoke – especially as the unwitting, second-hand recipient of advice from famed love expert and radio host Dr. Emma Lloyd. One day he is a happy, go-lucky guy looking forward to a life with his soon-to-be-bride. The next thing you know, his fiancée Sophia (Justina Machado) is seeking couples counseling on the radio from Dr. Lloyd. The no-nonsense, ever practical Dr. Lloyd questions Sophia’s concept of romantic love and advises her to break their engagement, which she swiftly does. But when Patrick and his computer-savvy neighbor decide to give Dr. Lloyd a taste of her own medicine and “accidentally” join them in holy matrimony – something that doesn’t go over too well with her fiancée (played by Colin Firth) -- it isn’t long before they learn that sometimes even an expert in love needs a second opinion… (from Rotten Tomatoes)
Review: The only noteworthy piece of the movie is the title: accidental is right, as in "I accidentally wasted an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back." The dearth of any creativity in plot, dialogue and acting ability is unhumanly cruel. The director inveigled the audience by casting the luring Uma Thurman as the lead. Not only did Uma not give a cogent performance, but left me with utter antipathy for her character. I almost wished she would just die and save both her suitors from a horrible future with her as a partner. The fire-fighting romeo gave a specious attempt at falling in love with this high strung love doctor. The only guys that tied me to the tv for that long were Jefferey Dean Morgan's dimples (I think they actually wrote in his contract how many times he had to smile in this movie) and Colin Firth's ability to make even the role of "Lame Spurned Lover" into the "Gracious Gentleman who Knows When He's Lost and His Pride Remains Intact".
After Robin Hood attempted to inveigle the Prince with a cogent explanation of the dearth of food in the village (to which the Prince responded with overtly specious plan to open the castle's kitchen to the poor), Robin attached the guy, tipped his cap and fled over the castle wall (taking a bag of the Prince's gold with him).
ReplyDeleteI hate the way they just stare at me. I am here minding my own business with only good intentions. I am passing the yogurts on my way to the bagels. I am fully aware that they will try to inveigle me. I am also fully away that there is no dearth of blubber under this sweatshirt. I am in the grip of the specious aura that surrounds them and I almost need a guy rope to fasten me to the good intentions I walked in with not five minutes ago. There allure is bold and cogent, I wont eat many but just one cannot hurt. Stop it! I cannot be that weak, maybe its not weakness, I mean you only live once right? Sure one won’t hurt, got to enjoy life while you can. Well this could go on forever, I will just put them in my cart and decide at checkout.
